body shape changing within short period of time?

A few months ago I was an athletic person, totally committed to my track training and gym. I had a lean appearance.
I went around europe for a month, and during that time I developed bad eating habbits such as going to McDonalds for meals amongst a new craving for ice cream.
Now since being back home, i'm finding it hard to kick the habit of overeating – not junk food but eating bigger portions of everything – fruit, muesli, vegetables.
Annoyingly out of all this, my body shape has grown. I'm looking more amped up physically – wider chest, bigger muscles but cardiovascularly wise im not up to scratch.
My thighs and bum seems to pick up the fat of something i eat. So what im asking, is for anyone who's been in this boat, how did they overcome this lack of self-confidence?

go back on a diet and go to the gym, the fisrt week is going to be really hard, but put a picture up in your mirror to show what you did look like compared to what you look like now.
