    The voltate in the NiMH battery are lower than the regular Alkaline battery. Using the NiMH might triggers a false alarm with your detector.

    This is my just my guess.

  2. NiMH have a shorter shelf life that other batteries. If you left them in a smoke detector they would be dead in less than 6 months.
