Water intoxication is a medical condition (also known as hyperhydration) in which an individual's intake of water is excessive. A person with two healthy kidneys can rid themselves of about 1.5 litres of water per hour at maximum filtration. The main consequences of overconsumption are hyponatremia (decreased plasma sodium, due to dilution) and suppression of the production of antidiuretic hormone. Extreme hyponatremia (with plasma sodium levels less than 100 mmol/L) frequently leads to cerebral edema, seizures, coma, and death.
First, the body's sodium levels drop, due to the loss of electrolytes when sweating (sodium is an electrolyte). Next, the excess water is absorbed into the bloodstream and eventually the lungs, and the victim will suffer from dyspnea and nausea. If allowed to progress without treatment, the victim will develop pulmonary adema, or filling of the lungs with a bodily fluid, and will face more serious complications.
You really can't drink too much water. I have to drink about 2 litres a day to keep kidney stones from forming. Any amount of water you can put in the kidneys can process and send to the bladder. The bladder can deal with all the water you can throw at it.
You want to drink 8-10 ounces per day. Drinking too much water with flush the vitamins and minerals out of your body making it easier for you to get sick. Drinking not enough water will make the viruses and stuff you can catch stay in your body because you are not drinking enough water to flush them out.
Water is an essential liquid for your body, but anything can be done to excess.
Your size can be a factor as well. A larger person can accomodate more water in a day than a smaller person.
I've always heard that 2 quarts or litres, or about 8 regular glasses of water is a good daily intake. As long as you aren't going dramatically over that amount you should be OK I think.
As my personal experience, from a training point of view. You have to really really drink water like crazy to get the medical conditions mentioned I mean more than 4 gallons or beyond per day and no proper nutrition with sodium intake to get in trouble. I drink close to 2 gallons every single day even if I don't feel thirsty, it help keep you body hydrated and get rid off toxins and chemical we ingest with modern food. Professional bodybuilders for competition drink around 3 gallons per day to help them get ripped, and to prevent low sodium the best and most effective way is to each some portion of nuts a day, like peanuts they are greatly packed with amminoacids and mineral that yoour body can take to keep then in proper levels. I have been drinking the around 2 gallos/day close to a year and I feel great and healthy, I also train a lot at the gym and do cardio. Proper nutriton is the key to prevent any inbalance in your nutriens level.
I read that more than 80 % of ppl are in a constant level of some dehydratation and I think is true.so dont worry about drinking too much water.
Be aware of junk food, soft drink other bad things that usually ppl eat or drink every day.
Have a great day
