Why are drugs(cocaine, ecstacy etc.) illegal but alcohol and smoking are not?

Is it because the goverment can't TAX it? Smoking and alcohol kills more people yearly than drugs in a decade but you don't see them being banned.

    If you owned cigarette and alcohol businesses would you want another product to cannibalize your sales?

    The cigarette and alcohol lobbies in Washington want to keep things just the way they are.

    They are too profitable to Uncle. At least if they would legalize they could control the purity of the substances and then even fewer deaths would occur.
    Logic and politics rarely travel together.

  3. Because moderate use of cocaine and ecstasy is still a lot more dangerous than moderate use of alcohol and smoking. I do think that everything should be legal though, so that people can choose their mistakes.

  5. Simple reason, People who use alcohol and cigarrettes don't go out and commit crimes to get the money to purchase them.

    Cigarettes don't change your personality.

    cocaine and ecstacy are alot worse then alcohol and smoking. they can hurt you alot more ways. yes they all can kill you but have you ever meet a person on drugs as bad as these. they mess you up alot worse then the other do

    it is because the people that make up the law won't support a bill including all of those drugs to be pass because they value their career but if we the people would have a vote at it most likely a few of the drug would be legal to us not all of them but some would be
