we would like to take a cruise that is only for adults. The last cruise we took we had kids running up and down the hall, yelling, bumping into you, etc.

The best thing to do to avoid kids is to get a cruise line that is a little more expensive. Usually companies like Princess, Crystal, Ocenia, etc. don't have kids. Two reasons, the prices are more expensive and less affordable to famlies, second, they cruises usually have less activities for kids. Also, cruises to some place like Alaska, that will attract a slightly older crowd, is also likely to have fewer kids.

If the cruise has a lot of kids activites, you may find that you won't run into kids as often. They will be in the child care most of the time. I go on Disney cruises all the time. Their children's activities are wonderful and kids don't want to leave them. So most of the time that is where they are. You will obviously pass them ocassionally, but it won't be too bad, as long as you stay away from things that will really attract kids, such as character meet and greets. But otherwise it isn't real bad, plus the shows are great.

Try going during the school year when kids are in school. There will still be kids on board, but far fewer because of the time of year.

Just look for cruise lines that offer the best cruise to the destination you want to go to and then look for the ones with the fewest childrens activities. This is likely to be the ships with the fewest kids. Stay away from Carnival, this is the ship with the most partying and drinking and least expensive. It attracts a much younger crowd, families and college aged kids. I think I would check into Oceania, they are a nice cruise and I think you would really enjoy it.

As far as smoking. The only cruise ship that is completely non-smoking is the Carnival Paradise. So this probably wouldn't be the best option for you. Just make sure your cruise ship doesn't have smoking rooms, some only offer this. But other than that, smoking is allowed in certain places on the ship, on some it is allowed anywhere that is open air. So it is hard to avoid it completely, but it usually isn't too bad, unless they allow smoking inside.

Again, I would check out Oceania, they are great. They have really nice destinations, the cruise is nice and it is a nice way to go.

    Hope this helps

Look into the Windstar Cruises. They are "sailing yachts" with anywhere from 150 – 250 passengers and discourage bringing children as they have no activities. It is geared for adults. It's more expensive than larger cruise lines but worth it as they can go into smaller more intimate ports. I do not remember whether or not they allowed smoking but the only place they probably would allow it was the casino. I don't smoke, but I don't remember anyone smoking on the ship.

I highly recommend Windstar Cruises. The service is second to none. The food is exceptional and the ports of call are extensive. They have a great website where you can view schedules and see the ships: http://www.windstarcruises.com

    Good luck in your search
