Do you think our culture praises beauty to the point of Extreme?
Posted on Feb 16, 2010 under Beauty Culture | 8 CommentsI wonder how everything is like it is today..
It seems to me in my life (1994-present) this thirst for beauty and the current trend has accelerated..
I always thought it was normal till I looked back and noticed that It never seemed to be as important as it is today!
With examples like Heidi Montag and any 30,40+ year old business person going in for work, do you think that our society has got to a point were you HAVE to be beautiful?
Whats you opinion

Of course you don’t HAVE to be beautiful, as most of the population is physically incapable of it.
Yes, beauty is highly valued. However, it’s not required.

too much pressure is put on people to be beautiful. What is beautiful though? everyone has their own idea of beauty. the media says you have to be 85 pounds and your face has too look like silly putty. that’s ridiculous! We have to start teaching young people that, that’s not reality and that everyone is beautiful inside.

Yes! It’s all about looks now. It’s like talent or brains does not matter anymore, as long as you are good looking you will be successful. Look at many singers and actors they barely have any talent but since they have their looks it won’t matter because people assume that they would just appreciate their attractiveness. It’s really disgusting, and has an effect on real life too. If someone is considered unattractive they get treated like crap, while the attractive person has an easier life and people treat them better. An attractive person would highly get picked over the unattractive even if the person may have higher skills for the job. And l have faced this stuff before. l was rather a very ugly duckling in middle school and l got teased and was treated like crap! even strangers would give me a hard time. lm in high school now and l still look kind of ugly sometimes but when lm not being lazy and when l fix myself up l find people to be a lot nicer to me and such. It really angers me and it is very unfair. No one chooses how they look like, it is not their fault. It should be what is in the inside and your personality and what you can do, not about looks, it is just an outer shell of ourselves, l can understand looks can be important but not so much that a person gets treated unfairly and have a much harder life because of it. Looks fade anyway but your inner self does not, your personality and knowledge will always stick with you.
