I'm just curious as to why America and the media has become sooo unbelievable obessed with physical beauty and sex symbols? Don't get me wronge, I myslef have always been into hair and cosmetics—-I love physical beauty and my own beauty, too. But I also do feel and believe that there are thousands and thousands of other topic and issues that should be praised and recognized as well in American culture, besides beautiful woman and sex symbols!!!

Hi, Im in university studying Understanding Popular Culture. For my assignment I have to explore a topic of my choice. I chose Beauty and Slim Culture. However i need to apply 2 sociological theories in relation to Beauty and Slim Culture. Im really puzzled as i dont know which theories would best relate to this. I am doing a project on The Culture of Beauty and I can't find anything on it. I need anything from how what is considered beautiful changes throughout time to how the media influences beauty. Any other aspects of the topic are VERY APPRECIATED!!

For school I am required to write a paper about my opinion on beauty pageants. I was wondering what offenses these pageants have against certain cultures. (for example: some cultures find it inappropriate for woman to wear anything slightly revealing etc.) What are some examples of such offenses?
Also, what kind of standards are you required to meet in order to participate in a pageant? (I read something about one woman in another country who had her crown revoked because she lived with her boyfriend before they were married?) Thanks!
Also, do you guys think a beauty pageant would frown apon single mothers?
