What will happen if I stop drinking beer and diet soda, health wise?

Posted on Jul 16, 2010 under Diet and health | 4 Comments

Right now, I am 6′3" 220lbs and have a BP of 110/55. The BP is good. But, I drink a TON of diet soda and get drunk every friday. I am stopping that, now..start 10-15 mins ago.

Of I were to cut out sugar and sodium from my diet, would I see health improvements?

Alties,. How good are you at following your own alternative health advice and a great diet?

I feel I am not near as good as I should or wish to be and beat myself up over this (not only for the delaying of better health it might cause but because it might make me a poor witness or example)

I guess just like I blamed myself when I could not save my dad years ago from lung cancer, now I am blaming myself for getting several health problems…I am getting older and that may be related and some of this is genetic but I still feel like it is all my fault..any advise to not do that or am I correct in feeling that.

It’s like I know what might help but since having so many things breaking down at once, I feel overwhelmed with all I feel I need to do and my depression makes it hard to get organized and motivated and I do not know why it is so hard to do this stuff to get better and I am mad at myself for not being a better patient to my inner doctor if that makes sense.

I guess when you believe you created or can fix your diseases if then makes it all your fault id you get sick but when you think I am just unlucky or it is genetic then you feel sad you got the disease but not guilty over it maybe

Just wondering if anyone else ever feel like this or am most of you pretty good at doing the good things for your own health advice and diet

if yes, how do you help yourself do it

and if no do you feel guilty or anything or just figure we aren’t perfect people or what

so part one of the question is how do you do and feel about you taking and doing your own advice or not doing so

and part two is any advice or input for me and what I relayed/feel/struggle with

thanks
mr ed

MY diet is for the last years (except for December) vegan, whole food most of the time. and about 50% raw. I eat about 80-90-% by volume produce. Eat beans and soy once in a while whole grains, raw nuts and a lot of variety in the produce up to 50 kinds a day.

I think it is a pretty good diet but once in a while I mess up like today I had movie popcorn.
I have had severe clinical depression for 35 years..took ssri and mao inhibitor drugs for 15..was suicidal whole time (back before they warned you) and quit and will not take drugs..about three times I year I do take about 3 pills for gout attacks but other than that little drugs. No alcohol or smoking for decades. Also doctor told me that sleep apnea causes add type symptoms which is entering into being so distracted and disorganized. I feel the cause of my depression is 3 sleep disorders

1 very severe sleep apnea (pressure varies from 19-24 which is high as machine goes..do not feel it is helping other than norming headache gone)

2 periodic limb movement disorders told kicking hundreds of times a night

3 severe sleep delayed phase syndrome up all night rarely getting any sun and very sporadic sleep schedule maybe go to bed at 10 am one day and 6 pm the next..no regular schedule for eating at all. Tendency to eat one or two big meals than 6 smaller ones,

4 get up to urinate
every 1 1/2 hours all through the night–once told I was getting hardly any stage three four sleep and nearly no rem sleep. I do feel I am getting more rem sleep since pressure up from 15 s I do recall dreaming which I never did before.

I have traced many of my ills to sleep deprivation

Also just found out in the last month I have severe slashing of reflux (no heartburn symptoms) and believe I had this nearly 2 decades before diagnosed due to off and on severe coughing fits..1/3rd of sleep apnea patients have silent reflux and it is correlated., I believe with the full face mask on tight to prevent leaks and the tremendously high pressure going down my throat when the phlegm comes and need to cough in sleep don’t and this is choking off my airwaves.

Took me 20 years to find that puzzle piece. My life feels like a complete living hell to be honest.
If not for high IQ and strong spirit, I don’t think I could function as well as I do. Too much s going on in every way.
a crisis counselor recently told me it is exhausting just listening to a few of the many things going on and it seems like I have 15 lives in one. It is very hard and doctors don’t help..I feel on m,y own trying to figure it all out and then the brain dysfunction makes it even harder and my propensity to negative thinking and worry does not help.

Just hearing a little of the tn of things I have went through and the constant daily new problems counselors tell me I am extremely strong but I don’t fee so strong.

I would do anything just to have a more normal life ..I was on a sleep board once and it was the only place anyone had comparable nightmares. (no pun) and understood some of what it was like..imaging only getting an hour sleep a night for the last 30-35 years and trying to function & on top of that crisis that make people think I am in a soap opera and making it up (if they do not know me as so much happens and has happened. Couple that with little support for the most part
your link does not work and has nothing to do with my question

What diet technique works better and doesn’t give you health problems when your older?

Posted on Jun 28, 2010 under Diet and health | 1 Comment

Okay, I’m trying to lose weight, I’m 25 years old male, 216 lbs, 5 foot 11 inches. I’m doing bent knee pushups to build my chest, so what diet technique works best without giving me health problems when I’m older. I’m a really big eater and I love pizza, nachos, ice cream, I can eat a whole pizza in just a few seconds or minutes. So I’m confused about what diet technique works best and I need your help: Does watching your portions to lose weight is the best or not, Does following the before during and after water diet to lose weight by eating whatever you want by drinking water before a meal, during a meal, and after a meal to lose weight, or just dieting by eating fruits, veggies and whole grains but have the bad foods once a week. What do you guys think? because I don’t want to get diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, etc. when I’m older. Please help me.

Why is my pet rabbit so shy and timid? It's health and diet are great, but it's just really shy?

Posted on Jun 17, 2010 under Diet and health | No Comment

SHe is shy, but get’s silly occasionally. She lives in a cage outside, but I take her on the lead around the front yard quite often (and she tries to eat up our herb garden, lol) I also take her into my room and just let her go free, but she often just sits there, and then goes and hides somewhere in my room, (like my bookshelf, which is really cute actually). It has occasionally run around like a lunitic, aka "binkied", in the past, but she usually just walks around and smells things, or hides like i said before.. She is a couple of years old. She has licked me before, but no other signs of affection, or interest in me. She has run away twice but we got a new cage, and one of those times we found her in our neighbor’s vegetable patch, stealing their veggies. :) She’s healthy and all, but why isn’t she as affectionate as other rabbits, and why is she shy?

Doesn’t it just P$ss you off when you ask a legit question in the diet and, health category and,,,,,,,?

the only answers you get are spammers trying to sell you some crap with their cheesy ads?

The connection between Diet Coke and heart health? Can someone explain this to me?

Posted on Jun 07, 2010 under Diet and health | 1 Comment

It looks like The US Department of Health and Human Services has partnered up with Diet Coke on The Heart Truth Campaign. http://www.dietcoke.com/reddress/

I’m seeing lots of magazine ads, and a campaign on TV.

From the HHS home page:

"THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES (HHS) is the United States government’s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves."

I find this campaign to be the height of hypocrisy. As far as I know there is not ONE ingredient in Diet Coke that is "healthy". And it pisses me off that my taxpayer dollars are funding a government agency that would propagate such nonsense. What do you think?
