As a biologist I know that the perfect human diet is the one that our ancestors adapted to and this included a lot of meat but this meat came from animals who were themselves well-fed and exercised a lot so it was not laden with saturated fat or as low and imbalanced in nutrients as modern farm animals. Also, they ate the organs and brains and bone marrow more so than the muscle, resulting in our need for the healthy oils now.
Aside from Inuits and ancient Europeans as well as some others in certain areas, fruit and non-starchy vegetables also made up a huge proportion of the diet. However, nowadays in order to get enough energy, energy dense but nutritionally weak foods like cereals are often consumed by vegetarians to replace the energy from meat.
I'm just interested in comparing your initial diet with your current one. I think most people don't eat a perfect meat diet in the first place so the increase in veg etc. would be more helpful than the meat reduction would be negative in these cases.
Great reply Maggie. Yes I agree completely with you regarding dairy. Ironically, due to their reporting to the kidneys as an acid, dairy products don't even balance out as being good for your bone health, which is held up as their greatest benefit! The beans and pulses aren't brilliant additions to a diet but I think they're better than cereal grains. I'm sort of exploring the whole difference between a perfect diet and a virtually perfect diet. As you say, humans are adaptable and I could probably make do with a less than perfect diet which is difficult or impossible anyway. I may want to pick your brains in future if that's ok?

alright i have a 20 gal with 4 black skirt tetras, 3 female guppies, and 3 male guppies. i have made up little food cubes in an ice tray. they are specifically for my guppies but i am not sure if they could negativly effect my tetras. the cube consists of dried rice [kroger brand] which i put in because i know that guppies live in rice fields, green beans [kroger brand] because we were out of peas and i know that greens are essential to their diet, and last friozen blood worms [H2O life aqaurium foods brand] because they are omnivores. I know that tetras love bloodworms and are also omnivores which require greens. but i am not sur about the rice for either type, can i have any information plz? i also feed flakes but i thought that this would be a great addition to their diets. the guppiesm are not feeders and the females are prego. will this be extra good for the females?[ before putting the rice in the cubes i let the guppies try it and they attacked it!]

So, I have always drank tons of soda. About a year ago I lost alot of weight by switching to diet soda…I oculdnt bring myself to quit soda, Im too addicted! But…I always hear bad things about diet soda…that it causes cancer. But, being fat can cause a whole lot of health problems too, so would you say its a trade off?

Beyond 'low carb', 'low fat', etc.
Get down to the nitty gritty and justify your views.
