Is my diet dangerous for my health, and if so, what are the risks?

Posted on May 26, 2011 under Diet and health | 3 Comments

So a week ago I decided to go on a diet I had dropped from 90 kg to 84 , basically all I’m doing is eating 1 meal a day, and it’s usually always under 1000 calories.

Why do most health practitioners preach diets and eventually they end up anorexic themselves?

Why do people say diet coke and aspertane have negative health effects?

Posted on May 26, 2011 under Diet and health | 2 Comments

No evidence.. a lot for the contrary though.
They say aspartame is bad for you.. but wheres the evidence?
INTRODUCTION: Artificial sweeteners are nowadays inevitable food additives, since they provide necessary food diversity to people suffering from diabetes. Aspartame is the most frequently used artificial sweetener ever and its safety profile is much better than that of saccharin or cyclamate. It received marketing approval in 1973, but only 3 months later aspartame was withdrawn because of allegations based on improperly designed experimental studies dealing with its carcinogen effects on rodent brain. However, extensive studies using the same model did not confirm such suspicions, and aspartame received a second marketing approval. EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDIES: Almost two decades later an epidemiological study found a relationship between aspartame and an increased frequency of brain tumors in humans. However, this study included a short time span of observation, and it did not estimate actual intake of aspartame, which led to lo
loss of validity. Later on no epidemiological studies found correlation between aspartame use and incidence of brain tumors in humans. Up to now the only safety concern about aspartame, which received valid scientific proofs, is pro-seizure action of its excessive intake. In patients with epilepsy, excessive intake of aspartame can decrease the threshold for seizures or prolong them once they appear. However, if the intake is not above the recommended level of 40 mg/kg b.w./day, aspartame is well tolerated even in this subpopulation. CONCLUSION: Based on detailed analysis of published studies on safety of aspartame, it should not be restricted, but used in recommended amounts.

40mg/kg means over 3g per day will be tolerated even by a person who has epilepsy. Now one liter of diet cola has only 560mg! That means you could have about 5 liters of diet soda and tolerate it well even if you were an epileptic patient! And healthy humans can tolerate more

Weight loss, diet, and health questions!?

Posted on May 18, 2011 under Diet and health | 1 Comment

I have a couple weight loss questions.

Starting about a month ago I was 206, I am 5′9 btw. 206 is the highest ive ever been in my life, im a 19 year old girl. I gained weight when i stopped dancing and now im down to 199 pounds in about a months time. I cut out soda and fast food, junkie things.

I do my elliptical machine usually 3-4 times a week for 25-30 minutes, I do it at 10 resistance everytime…. But im also walking around for school and work. Should I be doing longer times?

I drink water or some diet ice teas sometimes.

Usually my foods are like this :
I try to stay around 1,300-1,500 calories. how many calories should i consume ?

I eat a protein bar in the morning or wheat flat bread the 100 calorie ones with low fat peanut butter and usually fruit. or special k cereal.

For lunch depending on the day sometimes i eat a smart ones meal, chicken, salads, nothing too bad.

Ive been trying to replace one meal each day usually dinner with a smart ones meal. I usually snack on fruit now, jello, pudding and such.

how much weight should i be able to loose in 3 months? Is the food im eating right? Am i working out right?

i cheated a lot on the weekends with junk but not overeating i think thats why im only at 199 and i kinda slacked on working out. But ive been watching it now and im very serious i just need some advice and suggestions

If you work out all day and diet too can it cause sever health problems?

Hi, I took a beginners paramedic class. It was also a health class. I want to know if you work out all day like lift weaights and then diet can you damage something internally??? I know a guy that for the summer he worked out every day and diet. I don’t know if he did this crazly but sounded like it. In 2 to 3 weeks he lost 50 pounds .According to him… and I was told if you lose the weight too fast it can damage something internally. He currently is in the hospital throwing up blood.

So my question is can someone get seriously hurt if they over do it working out lets say if he worked out the wrong way can it cause something serious like throwing up a half cup of blood?

or would this be something totally different?
All I know is that my friend did some intense workout and diet and after he did this he started to faint not right away. He started to work out last summer on the start of june. He started to fain in october. He fainted many times in dec and jan. He went to the hospital every time he fainted. They found nothing. Today he puked 1 cup of blood and is back in the ER. He dosen’t do any intense workout now since he got college classes but during the summer he would wake up and do nothing but lift weights till it was time for bed. He did this every day. In 3 weeks he lost 50lbs. You could really tell. I was told that doing this is dangerous and you should lost more then 500 or 800 calories a day. The kid isn’t professional so do assume he worked out not properly. Do you think him puking up 1 cup of blood be caused by his intense workout. He is in the hospital but I ask because I think based on my paramedical classes we did learn that over doing it can cause many peoples. I was told

Your Open QuestionShow me another ยป
AM I FAT??????????????????????
A typical day is..
Morning-(a bowl of grapes) or (2 hard boiled egg w/o yellow part and 1/2 cup of cabbage or less) or (A serving size of Koshi heart healthy cereal w/ organic milk) or (a bowl of pasta) and sometimes I have a bowl of grapes with one of the breakfasts.
Lunch-(a small cup of soup with a bagel and a tsp of creamecheese and a small amount of strawberries with added sugar)or a (bagel with a 1/4 cup serving of macaroni salad and sugar added strawberries 1/4 cup or peach pear stuff) what they serve at lunch at the healthiest.
Liquids-(water all day usual tap[tap is good quality not fluoridated and comes from underground]) and some days (V8 witch is 50cal per serving and its pureed vegetables)
Snacks-when I get home I usual have a (1-4 servings bowl of grapes with other fruit) and/or (1-3 servings…if no fruit in the house 2-6 Koshi cereal milk less)
Dinner-(bowl of soup)or (pasta with sauce piled on the plate because my mom cooks too much damn pasta and I eat most of it) or (less pasta but still a lot with meatballs) or (steak with baked potato that’s actually baked not microwaved) or (organic canned rice and beans with peeper stuffed)
-One fault is I eat snacks late-
-I almost never touch touch junk food unless its cookies but i only eat home cooked cookies-
-I eat a lot but the foods are usually the same-
-this covers a weekday food schedule-

Weekend Scedeual
Breakfast-(none when I wake up late)or(same as weekdays)
Lunch-(pasta w/tsp sauce and a pinch organic butter)or(a bowl of soup)/or(koshi cereal a bowl no milk) or(a bowl of grapes) or(a bowl of grapes with other fruits) or (3 or 4 glasses of V8)or (koshi cereal bowl with 3 or 4 glasses of V8) or (some cabbage)
Dinner-(same as weekdays)
snack-(same as weekdays but it varies more)

okay that’s my diet.

Now for exercise.

I walk to all 9 high school classes.
I go to track for 2 hours.(depending on the day I face extreme temps and run around the track 2 times and do drills and depending on the day I either do more running/drills or stand for an hour and throw+ heaving balls or disks while stretching and occasionally running/jogging a bit)
at home i usually sit on the computer from 5:00-12:30 or watch a toddler for 20min-2hrs on some occasional days.

As for medical stuff
when i was 12, 5′3 I weighed 193
I found out I had hypothyroidism which is an extremely slow metabolism
and ever since taking the pills I lost weight.

Miscellanies- I drink 2cups-8cups a day and im trying to drink more water,
I’m trying to eat more veggies
I poop 1nce a day, sometimes none, sometimes twice
I sleep about 7hrs on schooldays and 10hrs+ on weekends
I’m a health food fanatic and hope to be a dietitian(or nanny)
