POLL:Survey about beauty and culture?

Posted on Apr 27, 2011 under Beauty Culture | 5 Comments

I am doing a research paper for my sociology class, and I was wondering if anyone could answer these questions for me seriously?

1. What is your ethnicity/ culture? What country do you live in?
2. Is there only one beauty standard for your culture? Or are there several?
3. What is the Ideal body type (height and weight) for a woman?
4. Is there any preferred hair color or texture? Please give an example.
5. Is there a preferred skin color? Please give an example.
6. On a scale of 1-10 how important are looks in everyday life, like jobs, school etc.
7. Do you think you fit your cultures standard of beauty?

How can a balanced diet and activities like Tai Chi help to stay in good health?

These are 2 separate questions Pls answer even if you know only one of the two Thanks :)

Posted on Jan 29, 2011 under Beauty Culture | 1 Comment

Beauty: Do they like being pale? How do they like to dress
What is seen as beautiful in China in a girl?
And what is the culture like?

It’s my first time abroad, does anyone know any countries with lots of natural beauty and interesting culture?

quite annoyed when i visited my childs school – health and diet?

Posted on Jan 14, 2011 under Diet and health | 7 Comments

i recently visited my childs school – and was surprised to see how many kids were allowed to eat unhealthy options either
a) parents allowing them to bring their own junk food in
b) parents allowing them to eat junk food from cafeteria

i make my kids lunch for this reason……..i spoke to the teacher about it and she to was horrified but has unfortunately been told to mind her own business by parents time and time again. I just can’t understand it ?
Isn’t that what teachers are for….teaching us our best ?????
teacher has tried to educate these parents and she even brought in fruit for the class on numerous occasions…was told she was overstepping her boundaries and insulting the lifestyles of families…i don’t understand

why do we as parents not set a good example for kids when it comes to health and diet?

Posted on Jan 14, 2011 under Diet and health | 6 Comments

I’m not super skinny – 134lbs and work out 4 days a week.
Make a big effort to play with my kids regularly to
but more importantly – i try and set a good example for them and encourage them to eat well and exercise regularly
I see many parents don’t seem to care about this in America ?? Why ? Its so sad ??

The 15 Worst Health & Diet Myths

Isn’t #1-5 and 9-11 completely wrong?
First of all, no he doesn’t have a degree in nutritional science. Colleges don’t teach the unsubstantiated junk science like what he spews in almost every article that he publishes/posts. "Experts” like this author is contributing to America’s high rate of obesity and diabetes, which are both strong risk factors for heart disease, the number one killer of men and women in the U.S.

Second, He has an undergraduate degree from Moravian College. Diet and Nutrition information should only be coming from someone who has either certification in the field of nutrition or is an RD. This article is a perfect example on why. Just being the editor-in-chief of a health magazine and comparing calories and fat in foods does not make you an expert or give you license to give me or anyone nutritional advise.

11.Beef may be not a cancer causing agent in itself, but a diet very high in saturated fats are linked to cancer. The monounsatured fat and polyunsatured fat in the beef is what may cause your
LDL to decrease (”bad” cholesterol), not the saturated fat. Regardless, there is strong scienific evidence, that high intakes of saturated fat causes your bad cholesterol to increase. beef is high in saturated fat.

4. Salt is the main cause of high blood pressure. We have now lowered the recommended amount of sodium to 1600mg per day because our research shows that a high sodium diet is to blame.
1. A very high-protein and fat diet could potentially harm and put stress on the kidneys.
Also, in this country most people don’t exercise half as much as they are supposed to. It is important for people on high protein diets to exercise, because it can help the kidneys flush wastes out of your system more effectively. Too much protein can leeches calcium from the bones. Digesting protein releases acids that the body usually neutralizes with calcium and other buffering agents in the blood. buffering agents in the blood. Digesting protein releases acids that the body usually neutralizes with calcium and other buffering agents in the blood. So if you aren’t getting enough calcium, your body will take calcium from your bones. Doing it for a long time, though, could weaken bone.

3. High intake of red meats and processed meats (such as hot dogs, bacon, or ham) do raise the risk of colon cancer. According to, American Institute for Cancer Research consuming less than 18 ounces a week.
4. Strong evidence does indicate that HFCS does contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes. Given that drinking sugary beverages increases the risk of both obesity and diabetes, it is a natural question whether drinking sugary beverages increases the risk of heart disease, too. The adverse effects of the high glycemic load from these beverages on blood glucose, cholesterol fractions, and inflammatory factors probably also contribute to the higher risk of heart disease. The average can of
sugar-sweetened soda or fruit punch provides about 150 calories, almost all of them from sugar, usually high-fructose corn syrup. That’s the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar.
If you were to drink just one can of a sugar-sweetened soft drink every day, and not cut back on calories elsewhere, you could gain up to 15 pounds in a year.
9. Who recommends ”after you suck down that sports drink, eat a bowl of 100 percent whole-grain cereal with low-fat chocolate milk?” Most chocolate milks have HFCS in them. Refer back to #4.

10. It’s not impossible to achieve 50 g of fiber in a day. Thank God, he didn’t recommend the synthetic form of the vitamin, which folic acid. More and more research is coming out saying it can greatly increase colon cancer.

2. . White potatoes are not a good source of vitamin A and sweet potatoes are not a good source of vitamin c. How the heck does dairy lowers your glycemic index?
I have never seen so much misinformation, lies and misleading information on here.

Like I said before, despite what the heck you ignorantly think, very strong evidence supports the fact that constant high intakes of saturated fats is detrimental to your heath. Vountless studies confirm the research. There are not many conflicting studies claiming high intakes saturated fats are good for your health. The research on this solid and is established on proof or competent evidence. Your heart, arteries, and your blood vessels don’t like to work that hard pushing/pumping so much plaque throughout your body. A diet high in saturated fat can affect the body’s ability to protect itself against some of the underlying causes of heart disease and stroke.

Saturated fat can reduce the ability of the body’s "good" cholesterol, or high-density lipoproteins (HDL), to protect the inner lining of the arteries from inflammatory agents that promote the formation of artery-clogging plaques. A single high-
I’m not saying that saturated fats, in general, are harmful to your health.
Many studies have convincing evidence that red meat intake increases the risk for colorectal, oesophageal, lung, pancreatic and endometrial cancer from both The American Institute for Cancer Research and World Cancer Research Fund. Increased beef intake is associated with fatal ischemic heart disease.

I have a question about diet and health..?

Posted on Jan 09, 2011 under Diet and health | 4 Comments

I became a vegan about a year ago,
I have been keeping a strict diet,
but over the holidays I ate a lot of junk food, plain chips, french fries, lot’s of wheat pasta,
I think I have gained some weight and I really need to take it off, I fasted for a couple days but then binged on food.
I usually only have one meal a day.
Really in need of some vegan’s help on some meal plans that will get me back on course.
